KayakÖy to ÖlÜdeniz
Trek from the ancient Greek city of Kayaköy to the beautiful beach of Ölüdeniz! Book NowKayaköy to Ölüdeniz
The Lycian Way is an ancient route over 500 km long from start to finish. This route was rediscovered in 1999 and wanders over mountains, through villages, along the coast, through forests all the while containing many historic ruins along the way. We kick off our adventure at one of the starting points for the Lycian Way located near the abandoned Greek city of Livissi (Kayaköy in Turkish) and trek over the mountain to the world famous Blue Lagoon of Ölüdeniz!
In 1923 the Greek city of Livissi was abandoned as the population was expeditiously forced to move to Greece during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey leaving behind a fascinating picture of what life was like here 100 years ago. Today what stands is the shell of the city with it’s rock churches, shops, school, & hundreds of homes. We will spend about an hour exploring the city and taking in the beautiful view of the valley below.
From the upper hillside of Livissi (Kayaköy), we make our way over the mountain to the extremely picturesque views of the Mediterranean & the Blue Lagoon. The trek itself is about two hours of easy to moderate hiking with a total ascent of about 300 feet and total descent of about 1000 feet. You can expect to have partial shade along the trail.
This hike is suitable for children aged 6 and up.
